Plain and simple, if Luka Doncic stays with the Dallas Mavericks, his name will be part of the conversation of superstar players who never won a Championship. The roster is poorly constructed, the coaching is questionable, and management (Mark Cuban) continues to make decisions that leave you scratching your head.
It’s feeling more and more like Kyrie Irving won’t be back. Which is a good thing. What a disaster trade that was for the Mavericks. Only for the team to miss the playoffs and ultimately get fined for basically benching their entire roster. Doncic isn’t going to come right out and say he wants out, but the writing is on the wall. If Luka was to make a trade request public, it would shorthand the Mavericks. Keeping it under wraps gives Dallas the power to ask for the world in trade demands.
The point is that the Mavericks need to rebuild and think long term now. If they continue to wait, they’re only setting themselves further and further back.
There’s not a team in the league who wouldn’t give up their entire roster and then some to bring in the mega superstar. However, there’s only one team that feels like it makes sense. A team that has shown it can compete for years to come. And the addition of Doncic would make them perennial favorites.
That team is the Denver Nuggets. To join Nikola Jokic and dominate the league for the rest of their careers.
The Nuggets may be in NBA Finals, but you would have to be kidding yourself not to be considering the fact they have the assets and desire to add Doncic. Here’s the trade that would make it happen:
Denver Nuggets receive: Luka Doncic
Dallas Mavericks receive: Michael Porter Jr., Aaron Gordon, Bruce Brown, Zeke Nnaji, 2024 first-round pick, and 2026 first-round pick.
