On Friday, Petco Park was as loud as ever as it hosted its first postseason game in front of fans since 2006. A day later, the home crowd was more subdued as the still-formidable Dodgers, seeking to stave off elimination, built and maintained an early lead.

That was before the bottom of the seventh inning.

In a rally that was instantly etched into franchise lore, the Padres sent 10 batters to the plate and reeled off five runs as they overtook the stunned Dodgers. Two innings later, Josh Hader fired a scoreless top of the ninth, sealing a monumental upset and sending San Diego into its first National League Championship Series since 1998 with a 5-3 win.

For the better part of six innings Saturday, it had felt like the Padres were tightening up on the cusp of a major breakthrough. Hometown kid Joe Musgrove grinded through six innings of two-run ball but received no support.
