Rumors have been swirling in reference to a potential Xander Bogaerts extension in Boston with the Red Sox. However, nothing has come to fruition. Bogaerts possesses an opt-out clause in his contract with many expect him to exercise following the 2022 campaign. And there will be no shortage of suitors for the All-Star shortstop. According to Audacy.com and MLB insider Bob Nightengale, there are several executives who believe the Chicago Cubs could sign Bogaerts in the offseason.

“Several executives are predicting that they end up with Xander Bogearts,” Nightengale said.

Nightengale also mentioned that Jed Hoyer is a former Red Sox front office member who is now the President of Baseball Operations for the Cubs. So Hoyer would likely have interest in bringing Xander Bogaerts to Chicago.
