The Los Angeles Angels fired manager Joe Maddon, the team announced Tuesday. Los Angeles named third base coach Phil Nevin as its interim manager and later on Tuesday, Angels GM Perry Minasian said Nevin would remain in that position for the rest of the season.

The Angels are in the midst of a 12-game losing streak that dropped their record to 27-29, 8 1/2 games back of the Houston Astros in the AL West. Maddon had a 157-172 record in two-plus seasons managing the Angels.
