Cleveland Guardians center fielder Myles Straw says Yankee Stadium crossed a line that should never be crossed mocking an injured opposing player in the final stages of the Yankees’ 5-4 comeback win Saturday at Yankee Stadium.
Straw was so angry that he climbed the left-field wall to confront a man who was ribbing Guardians left fielder Steven Kwan, who crashed headfirst into the left-field wall trying to make a game-ending catch on Isiah Kiner-Falefa’s game-tying double with two outs and two strikes in the ninth inning on a one-run game.
Straw’s reaction led to a lot of boos and umpires walking him back to his position.
Yankees Fans Throw Beer Bottles At Cleveland Guardians Outfielders After Myles Straw Confrontation
And then things really got ugly when Gleyber Torres delivered a pinch-hit, walk-off single.
While Yankees players were on the field mobbing Torres, fans in right-center field threw garbage and cups of beer at Guardians right fielder Oscar Mercado and Straw, both of whom had converged chasing after the game-winning liner that dropped for a hit. Mercado even caught some of the trash throw at him.
