There’s no known date for Bryan Reynolds’ possible arbitration hearing. However, if the Pirates have their way, it may never come to that.
According to multiple sources, the team has been pushing to sign Reynolds to at least a two-year deal that would circumvent the need for an arbitration hearing and hopefully open the door to further talks.
Owner Bob Nutting, sources said, is believed to be disappointed that the Pirates are — for now — headed to an arbitration hearing with their best player and does not like the way that looks on multiple levels.
To fans, for one. But Nutting also wants to better connect with players coming out of the new collective bargaining agreement and doesn’t believe that taking Reynolds to an arbitration would do anything to achieve that goal.
