Michigan defensive tackle Mazi Smith pleaded guilty Thursday to a misdemeanor charge of attempted possession of a loaded firearm inside a motor vehicle, resulting in the dismissal of a felony charge stemming from his Oct. 7 arrest.

Smith entered the plea at a probable cause hearing in Washtenaw County (Mich.) District Court. Judge J. Cedric Simpson advised Smith that the misdemeanor charge would carry a maximum penalty of one-year incarceration and a $1,000 fine and set his sentencing for Dec. 29.
