There are very few things in the NBA world that are better than getting something for nothing. If that’s true, the opposite must be true as well: there are very few things worse than losing something for nothing.

Let’s say you own the biggest TV on the market. Unfortunately, you can’t afford to live in your mansion anymore – you’re going to have to downsize into a smaller home with no space for the television. Would you rather sell that TV for a discounted price, or take it outside and smash it to bits with a baseball bat?

Unless you’ve got some serious anger issues to resolve, you’re going to choose the former route.

These principles apply to NBA teams as well. No team likes to trade a player for less than they’re worth.

At the same time, if that player is about to receive a contract they can’t afford, they may be forced to do so. Otherwise, they risk losing him for nothing.

That’s exactly the situation the Golden State Warriors may soon be running into with Andrew Wiggins. Here’s a deal that has them trading him before it’s too late.

Golden State Warriors Receive: G/F Evan Fournier, F Obi Toppin, G/F Cam Reddish, 2023 First-Round Pick (DAL via NYK)

New York Knicks Receive: G/F Andrew Wiggins
