No matter what you thought of the New York Knicks during their run to the No. 4 seed in the 2020-21 season or coming into the 2021-22 season, they have turned in a disappointing campaign. The Knicks are currently sitting 5.5 games out of the NBA Play-In Tournament, as they look destined to head back to the NBA Lottery.

New York will fight until the very end when they are mathematically eliminated from the postseason, but there are some people within the organization already setting plans for the offseason. This is an important one for the Knicks, as they could look to make some sizable changes.

The biggest one could be moving on from Julius Randle. Randle was named an All-Star last season and earned a spot on the All-NBA Second Team for his performance. He signed an extension in the offseason but has regressed this season.

There was some discussion about trading Randle ahead of the deadline, but nothing came to fruition. Talks could pick up again in the offseason, but what the Knicks need is an answer at point guard.

Acquiring an upgrade at the position would help cover up a lot of the team’s shortcomings. Could Markelle Fultz of the Orlando Magic be an option in the offseason?

Let’s take a look at this hypothetical deal that lands Fultz in The Big Apple this offseason via trade.

New York Knicks Receive: G Markelle Fultz

Orlando Magic Receive: F/G Cam Reddish, G Kemba Walker

This hypothetical trade was put together by Greg Swartz over at Bleacher Report. He put together a piece detailing offseason trade ideas for all of the teams in the NBA that currently have the bleakest postseason outlook this season.

The New York Knicks and Orlando Magic are both on the outside looking in. While the Knicks have an outside shot at a Play-In Tournament spot, the Magic are 16 games behind and eliminated for all intents and purposes. So, the teams come together on a deal that can help push them closer to a playoff spot next season.
