Aaron Rodgers is still trying to make a comeback this season from his Week 1 Achilles injury, and he is wowing his fellow New York Jets players in practice.
On Friday, Rodgers felt good enough to take reps as a fill-in defender on the scout team. At one point, he even made a leaping interception while playing as a linebacker, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN. The ridiculous play left teammates buzzing.
“Jumped up and caught it with one hand,” tackle Duane Brown recounted. “He contested a catch and picked it off.”
Obviously, Rodgers is feeling okay if he is capable of doing something like that, and the Jets are comfortable with him pushing it a bit if they are not trying to put a stop to it.
Rodgers is said to be targeting the Jets’ Christmas Eve game against Washington for a potential return, but the team’s playoff hopes may be over with by then. That would likely impact the decision. For now, there are plenty of signs of optimism coming out of the team’s practices.
