New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffered a significant setback when he tore his Achilles tendon just four plays into the NFL season.
He suffered a complete Achilles tendon tear or rupture, and somehow he is healing like Wolverine. Many believed that this injury would sideline him until the 2024 season, especially given his age, as he’s set to turn 40 in December.
Fewer than five weeks after tearing his left Achilles tendon, New York Jets QB Aaron Rodgers ditched the crutches and walking boot. He shocked everybody as he strolled onto the field during pregame warmups during the team’s last game and started throwing passes.
A new report details how Rodgers met up with a doctor and ended up having an innovative new procedure that could possibly have him back on the field sooner rather than later.
“Rodgers texted Dr. Neal ElAttrache immediately when he got back to the locker room and scheduled surgery within the next 48 hours.
Rodgers then flew out to Los Angeles and underwent an innovative new procedure called a Speed Bridge repair.
The TLDR is that the speed bridge repair is less invasive (2-3 centimeter cut) and can reduce your recovery time from 9-12 months to 5-6 months.”
The post also detailed whether Rodgers could actually come back and play in 2023.
The 39-year-old Rodgers said during his weekly appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” he was “obviously, ahead of schedule” and “felt great” while throwing and had “just a little bit of a limp.”
“It just felt a little bit more normal,” Rodgers said, “in a time that has been the abnormal, anything I’ve tried to do.”
Rodgers has already blown away the traditional timetables associated with that type of injury, which usually sidelines players for at least six to nine months. What he is doing could very well change the NFL and timetables for players who suffer this injury in the future.
