Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar has been suspended for one game by the NHL on Tuesday for his hit on Kraken forward Jared McCann in Game 4 on Monday. Here’s what you need to know:

The hit occurred in the first period deep in the Avalanche’s zone after McCann’s breakaway attempt was saved.

After the shot, McCann circled to the left of the net before Makar hit him into the boards long after the shot.

Makar was initially hit with a major penalty for the hit, but that was reduced to a minor after an official review.

McCann, the Kraken’s leading scorer remained down on the ice for multiple minutes after the hit and didn’t return after exiting. Seattle coach Dave Hakstol said after the game that McCann will be out for Game 5.
