It’s rare that an NBA team wants to rebuild. Sometimes, they don’t have much of a choice.
Sometimes, a team is simply at the end of its rope. They’ve got nowhere to turn. All that’s left to do is trade their star player and start from scratch.
The Portland Trail Blazers may be in that situation. This team has given its all to try to contend with Damian Lillard. At this point, it just doesn’t look like it’s going to happen for them.
Meanwhile, the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers look like they’re running out of steam too.
Still, either one of these teams feels more likely to retool rather than rebuild.
Perhaps all three could help each other this summer?
