If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it. That’s what they say. There’s some validity in the expression. At the same time, isn’t it antithetical to improvement? NBA teams struggle with the same dilemma.
Perhaps it’s not broken. That doesn’t mean it couldn’t be better. The saying ought to be “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it – but if there’s room to improve it, go ahead.”
Although, that isn’t very catchy. A team that’s got it rolling could be presented with an opportunity to upgrade its roster.
Even the best teams in the NBA would have to entertain certain upgrades. The Boston Celtics are rolling. Could they entertain a roster upgrade anyway?
The Celtics have been close to winning a title, but they could use a bold move to get over the hump. Sometimes, such a risk is ultimately what it takes to get it done
Here’s a deal that has them doing so by acquiring Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks.
Atlanta Hawks Receive: G/F Jaylen Brown, F Danilo Gallinari, 2025 First-Round Pick (BOS), 2027 First-Round Pick (BOS)
Boston Celtics Receive: G Trae Young
