Everywhere you look, you see stars. We live in a society that’s obsessed with them. We’ll let you decide whether that’s a good thing. Either way, it’s a reality. Stars are on billboards, on TV, and on your phone. If you want to escape them, you may need to invest in a cabin in the woods. NBA teams are obsessed with stars too.

On the other hand, that’s not merely a function of fandom. Front offices around the league want to land star players because they’re most likely to help them win games.

The New York Knicks are particularly star-hungry. This team nearly traded for Donovan Mitchell this summer.

They failed in their pursuit, but nonetheless, it is apparent that the Knicks are looking to land a big fish.

Fans should expect their pursuit of a star player to continue until it concludes with them acquiring one.

Could Anthony Davis be that star?

When it comes to landing star players, no two teams in the NBA should have an easier time than these ones. Somehow, the Lakers always have the upper hand.

Maybe it’s the weather. In any event, the Lakers have always been a destination for big-name players. From Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to LeBron James, there’s a rich history of star players opting to don the purple-and-gold.

The same cannot be said for the Knicks. One might assume that there would be a tremendous appeal in playing basketball in New York. Culturally, it’s widely regarded as the Mecca of the sport.

Yet, the Knicks seem to consistently come up short when pursuing top players. Perhaps that owes to regular mismanagement.

Either way, they haven’t been able to leverage their status as a big market team in a long time.

Could this be the deal that changes that?
