The South Florida Bulls and Tulane Green Wave clash Saturday in AAC week 7 college football action from Raymond James Stadium. Tulane is fresh off a matchup versus East Carolina. In that game the Wave won by 15 points. As for South Florida, they played Cincinnati in their last game. The Bulls ended up falling in a pretty close outcome.
Tulane opened up their year with a three-game win streak, taking out UMass 42-10, Alcorn State 52-0 and Kansas State 17-10. The Wave took their first loss in game four versus Southern Miss 27-24, but bounced back with a 27-24 OT win over Houston the next game.
In the East Carolina matchup, the Wave posted a 10-0 advantage in the second half during a 24-9 win. QB Michael Pratt finished with 326 yards and two scores, while Duece Watts led the receivers on four catches, 93 yards and a TD.
Over on the South Florida side, they lost to BYU in their opener 50-21, but then got a win over Howard 42-20 in the next game. The Bulls would then hit the skids, taking losses 31-28 to Florida, 41-3 to Louisville and 48-28 to East Carolina.
Matched up against Cincinnati over the weekend, USF was up 17-14 at halftime but couldn’t hang on in a 28-24 loss. QB Gerry Bohanon posted 139 yards with two scores, and also led the rushing attack with 14 carries for 117 yards.
PICK: I might take a stab on South Florida. The Bulls did a solid job against a good Cincinnati team in their last outing, notching 363 total yards, 5.7 yards per play, zero turnovers and just two penalties. The 139 passing yards was fairly lackluster, but South Florida made up for it with 224 on the ground and a reasonable 8-of-15 on third downs.
As for Tulane, they were pretty steady in their win over East Carolina despite notching just 41 rush yards and seven penalties. The Wave are on a nice run to start out the year and I think they’ll play well here also. That said I think the Bulls can get in on a cover.
