The FIU Panthers and UTSA Roadrunners do battle Friday in a week 7 C-USA college football game from FIU Stadium. UTSA is fresh off a matchup versus Western Kentucky. In that one, the Roadrunners eked out a three-point victory. As for FIU, they played UConn in their last game. The Panthers fell by 21 points in that one. UTSA’s 2022 campaign started off on a sour note with a 37-35 OT loss to Houston, but they got a 41-38 OT win over Army the next week. The Roadrunners would follow that pair up with a 41-20 loss to Texas, a 52-24 win over Texas Southern and a 45-30 win over Middle Tennessee.

In the Western Kentucky game back on Saturday, the Roadrunners were outscored 14-7 in the final quarter but still held on for a 31-28 win. QB Frank Harris put up 273 yards with a score, and Brenden Brady added 82 rush yards and a TD off 19 carries.

Over on the FIU side, their year began with a tense matchup versus Bryant and an eventual 38-37 overtime win. The Panthers would lose their next two games 41-12 to Texas State and 73-0 to Western Kentucky. FIU got a 21-7 win over New Mexico State in game four.

Matched up against UConn, the Panthers were outscored 20-0 in the first half and eventually stumbled to a 33-12 loss. QB Grayson James managed 256 yards with two picks, and Lexington Joseph rushed seven times for 103 yards and a TD.

PICK: I’m probably sticking with UTSA but not touching it. The Roadrunners played it pretty close against Western Kentucky over the weekend, giving up 481 yards and 26 first downs to the Hilltoppers. UTSA did pretty well on the offensive side themselves however, with 486 yards, 30 first downs and 6.1 yards per play.

As for FIU, they were unlucky (and simply not playing well) in their last outing with three turnovers, 402 yards allowed and 4-of-14 on third-down tries. FIU should put up another decent offensive effort here, but I don’t think they’ll cover.
