The Calgary Flames and defenceman MacKenzie Weegar are closing in on an eight-year contract extension. The deal would hover around the $50 million mark.

Weegar joined the Flames from the Florida Panthers, along with Jonathan Huberdeau, in the trade that sent Matthew Tkachuk to the Sunshine State.
