White Sox manager Tony La Russa will not return to Chicago’s dugout this season, the team announced Saturday. Bench coach Miguel Cairo replaced La Russa as acting manager on Aug. 30, and the White Sox said he will stay in that role for the remainder of the season.

“We are going to continue to follow (La Russa’s) wishes of keeping much of the specific details and his personal information quiet,” said White Sox general manager Rick Hahn. “I did speak to him on the way in this morning and he had no issue with us letting everybody know that there is a treatment protocol in place that he plans on adhering to.”
