Rome wasn’t built in a day. That’s a fact. At the same time, they probably didn’t take any longer to build it than they needed to. The same holds true for rebuilding NBA teams.

In the same breath, patience is a virtue. Alternatively, too much patience can be a burden. If you’re not careful, you can sit and wait for an opportunity that ends up passing you by.

Rushing a rebuild is not ideal. When a young team trades for impact veterans, they’re denying themselves the opportunity to acquire more young prospects.

On the other hand, rebuilding for too long can have its own drawbacks.

Players get tired of losing. For that matter, so do fans. If a front office looks at it’s young core and feels confident enough in it, swinging a big trade for a veteran can be a bold decision that ends up getting rewarded.

In the event that the Orlando Magic feel confident in the young core they have, here’s a deal that has them landing Damian Lillard from the Portland Trail Blazers.

Portland Trail Blazers Receive: F/C Jonathan Isaac, C Mo Bamba, G Jalen Suggs, 2023 First-Round Pick (CHI via ORL), 2025 First-Round Pick (DEN via ORL), 2027 First-Round Pick (ORL)

Orlando Magic Receive: G Damian Lillard
