If you’re going to extend your sympathies to an NBA franchise, let it be the New York Knicks.
We’re not joking. This franchise has been beleaguered for too long. Sometimes, it feels like every offseason, Knicks fans expect something major to happen – only to have their hopes dashed, again.
In the summer of 2019, for some unknown reason, Knicks fans widely expected to land Zion Williamson in the draft. That assumption, in light of the flattened lottery odds, was never logical. Still, you could feel the disappointment within their fanbase when the Pelicans earned the right to select the exciting young forward.
The following summer, the Knicks were heavily linked to Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving in free agency. You know the rest. Durant and Irving did make their way to New York – to join the Brooklyn Nets.
This offseason, everyone expected the Knicks to land Donovan Mitchell. Until that is, the Cleveland Cavaliers traded for him. All told, it’s been a rough ride for the Knicks.
With that being said, maybe withhold your sympathy, and see if any of the following three trades transpire first.
