Just ahead of last month's Nike EYBL Peach Jam – the country's premier AAU tournament – Trey Green got a phone call from Xavier head coach Sean Miller.
They talked for about 15 minutes and after that call, Green knew where he was playing college basketball.
"Coach Miller made it very clear how he wanted me, how he sees me fit in the Xavier offense, how he sees me fit in the Big East (Conference)," said Green, who committed Saturday to Xavier. "It was just a reassurance because I was iffy about where I was leaning … and when coach Miller made that reassurance to me, I was like, 'He's the one.'"
Green, a four-star point guard from Charlotte, North Carolina, chose Xavier over LSU, Miami, Virginia and VCU . He's ranked No. 98 nationally in the 2023 class by 247Sports.
Following that phone call with Miller, Green and his Mokan Elite team went on to win the Peach Jam and Green was named MVP after averaging 16.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists against some of the toughest competition in the country.
"I'm still trying to soak it in," Green said of the Peach Jam experience. "It was something special because knowing that not a lot of guards my height (5'10") get that reward, both winning Peach Jam and winning Peach Jam MVP."
