Friendswood (Texas) High Top247 edge rusher Braylan Shelby announced his commitment to USC on Saturday afternoon during a live broadcast on the 247Sports YouTube Channel. He chose to play for the Trojans over his other finalist in Texas.

Shelby is commit No. 15 for head coach Lincoln Riley and the Trojans in the 2023 recruiting class.
“Really when I went on my official visit, seeing all the legends that came out,” Shelby said. “They talked to me about what the community has done for them, what LA has done for them. The places they’ve gone and things they got to do just because they played in LA. They were talking about the benefits and what the education from SC has done. How SC overall is a great fit for anybody.”

It was the right fit for the 6-foot-4 1/2, 235-pound Shelby who is tabbed by the 247Sports Composite as the nation’s No. 15 edge rusher and No. 133 prospect overall. Shelby racked up close to 40 offers during his process but no program came harder for him, building a relationship with Riley, his lead recruiter Roy Manning and defensive coordinator Alex Grinch.
