The New York Mets and the Washington Nationals meet in an NL East division matchup in MLB action from Nationals Park on Monday night.
The New York Mets will try to keep the win streak going after a 9-3 win over the Marlins on Sunday to complete the sweep and make it six straight Ws. Francisco Lindor has 102 hits along with 17 home runs, 70 RBIs and a .262 batting average while Pete Alonso also has 103 hits, 26 home runs and 85 RBIs. Starling Marte has 103 hits, 19 doubles, 4 triples and 46 RBIs as well while Eduardo Escobar has 20 doubles as well as 3 triples and Brandon Nimmo has also chipped in 5 triples as well this season. Jeff McNeil has 91 hits, 21 doubles, a triple and a .294 batting average as well on the year. Max Scherzer will start here and is 6-2 with a 2.09 ERA and 104 strikeouts this season.
The Washington Nationals will look to rebound after losing their series finale against the Cardinals after a 5-0 defeat last time out. Cesar Hernandez has 97 hits with 22 doubles while Josh Bell also has 112 hits, 23 doubles and 57 RBIs with a .302 batting average. Maikel Franco also has 79 hits and 15 doubles of his own while Juan Soto has 17 doubles with a team-high 20 home runs. Keibert Ruiz also has 18 doubles and Nelson Cruz has 52 RBIs as well this season. Patrick Corbin will start here and is 4-14 with a 6.49 ERA and 98 strikeouts this season.
New York is 24-6 in their last 30 series-opening games and 6-1 in their last 7 road games while the over is 6-2-1 in their last 9 Monday games. Washington is 17-36 in their last 53 series-opening games and 51-108 in their last 159 games overall while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 home games.
I get the case to be made for the home underdog in some spots, but the Nationals can be hard to back to begin with but now have Patrick Corbin on the hill who has been arguably the worst pitcher this season for the Nationals that’s been consistently in the rotation. Max Scherzer’s had some ups and downs, but in this instance, he’s the far better starter with the far better team behind him so give me New York -1.5 here.
