Building the perfect NBA team is hard. Even if you manage to do so, your group will eventually become unaffordable.
Just ask the Golden State Warriors. This team is as close to flawless as any in the league, having just won the 2021-22 NBA championship. Now, it looks like the band may be breaking up sooner than expected.
Draymond Green will be due for a contract extension soon. He’s on record saying that he thinks he deserves a max, and he may. At the same time, it won’t be easy for the Warriors to provide him with one.
After all, Jordan Poole is still on his rookie contract. He’ll be due for a massive raise soon. Furthermore, Andrew Wiggins is set to hit unrestricted free agency following next season.
Given his inevitable market value, keeping all three, barring one of them accepting a significant discount, may be impossible.
If the Golden State Warriors wanted to get ahead of that problem, here are three trade ideas involving Wiggins they could consider this summer.
Houston Rockets
Golden State Warriors Receive: G/F Eric Gordon, F Jae’Sean Tate, F Kenyon Martin Jr., 2023 First-Round Pick (MIL via HOU)
Houston Rockets Receive: F Andrew Wiggins
Some will argue that the Houston Rockets would be acting prematurely here. Why surrender assets for Wiggins when they can simply make a run at him in free agency next summer? Well, let’s take a look at what the Rockets are actually giving up here.
