Question: how many star players does it take to fix a lightbulb? Keep in mind that fixing is winning, and a lightbulb is an NBA championship.

The answer is at least two. Single-star teams going all the way are a rare commodity in the history of the NBA. On the other hand, there’s a real debate to be had about whether a duo or a trio is better.

Instinctually, one may opt for a trio. We’re not mathematicians, but we’re pretty sure three is more than two.

On the other hand, a duo takes up less salary cap space. In turn, that allows their team to put a deeper cast around them. In recent years, that’s been part of why the league has been trending away from super teams toward dynamic duos.

With that said, Philadelphia 76ers general manager Daryl Morey isn’t one to follow trends. He’s more inclined to start them.
