Veteran head coach Barry Trotz won’t be returning to an NHL bench by the start of next season.

The Winnipeg Jets pursued Trotz for their coaching vacancy, but the 59-year-old informed the team he’s going to focus on his family for the time being, sources told TSN’s Darren Dreger. Trotz reportedly didn’t rule out returning to coaching down the road.

The New York Islanders fired Trotz in May after missing the playoffs for the first time in his four-year tenure with the club. He was widely considered to be the top candidate for the nine available coaching jobs, and several teams interviewed him.
