When asking the question of whether the Toronto Raptors need a center, a broader question emerges: Does any NBA team need a center in 2022?

It is, after all, a positionless league. Arguably, no team reinforced that fact more than the Raptors last season. They spent much of the season with Pascal Siakam at the 5.

Only a few short years ago, he would have been seen as more likely to play small forward than center. Times change and the Raptors seem well aware of it. Still, one wonders if they’d benefit from having a rim protector big man patrolling the paint.

Even amidst the three-point revolution, dunks and layups remain the most valuable hots in the league. Taking them away will always give teams an advantage.

Nobody takes more of them away than Rudy Gobert. Meanwhile, many expect the Utah Jazz to make the 3x Defensive Player of the Year available this summer.

Here’s a trade that sends him to the Toronto Raptors.

Utah Jazz Receive: F OG Anunoby, G/F Gary Trent Jr.

Toronto Raptors Receive: C Rudy Gobert
