Ghana is set to receive a major boost in talent ahead of the 2022 World Cup as they’re on the verge of poaching to English internationals to add to their ranks. According to reports, both Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey and Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah are in the process of swapping their national allegiances to join the Ghanian national team ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The DailyMail indicates that both Nketiah and Lamptey could receive clearance from FIFA giving the green light on the switch as early as this week.
Neither Lamptey nor Nketiah had ever received a call-up to England’s national setup, but they’ve made plenty of appearances in the youth levels for the national team and were pegged as possible future stars for England. Nketiah is actually the all-time leading scorer for England’s U-21 team, having registered 16 goals in 17 games. Neither will be continuing on to reach the senior team, however, following their decision to join Ghana.
