The Memphis Grizzlies are on the cusp of something special. Still, it feels like they’re only on the cusp. As of this writing, they’re down 0-1 against a formidable Golden State Warriors squad in the second round of the NBA playoffs.

For a team built around a 22-year-old point guard in Ja Morant, this probably qualifies as a successful season if they get swept. Finishing second in the West and advancing to the second round is an impressive run for a team that could easily be rebuilding.

They’re probably a piece away from truly contending. In all likelihood, that piece will not be Kevin Durant. It would be quite a coup for the organization if it was.

At the same time, we wouldn’t rule it out. This is the NBA. Crazy things happen every summer. The Nets are in a difficult position. Both Kyrie Irving and Ben Simmons seem to struggle to find their way on an NBA court.

Trading Durant doesn’t feel like the intuitive solution, yet it could be the right one. He would return, by far, the most value out of Brooklyn’s big three.

In the unlikely event that the Nets do move on from their best player, here are two trade packages that send him to the Memphis Grizzlies.

Brooklyn Nets Receive: C Steven Adams, G/F Dillon Brooks, G De’Anthony Melton, 2023 First-Round Pick (MEM), 2024 First-Round Pick (GSW), 2025 First-Round Pick (MEM)

Memphis Grizzlies Receive: F Kevin Durant

This is a package befitting a rebuilding club for the Brooklyn Nets.
