GG Jackson, an elite prospect in the 2023 class who is in strong consideration as the No. 1 player in the class, has committed to the North Carolina Tar Heels, he tells 247Sports.

The 6-foot-9, 215-pound power forward out of Columbia (S.C.) Ridge View committed to the Tar Heels over other options including Auburn, Duke, Georgetown, South Carolina, the G League and UMass.

"I chose them because they showed how I was the No. 1 priority in the class of 2023 and because coach [Hubert] Davis is an African American coach who knows what he is doing," he told 247Sports as to why he picked North Carolina.

Securing the talents of Jackson is not only a big win but it's a huge win as a first major test for Davis since he took the reins.

The Tar Heels were heavy favorites when they began their recruitment of Jackson dating back to the summer of 2021 but other schools entered the picture and put up a strong fight including Duke and Frank Martin at South Carolina.

"I knew I wanted to go there for sure when before the Final Four game the coaching staff came down to watch me the play normal pick up basketball," Jackson said of the moment he knew he would be a Tar Heel.
