Chattanooga star guard Malachi Smith entered the NCAA transfer portal Wednesday, according to a breaking report by 247Sports national basketball analyst Travis Branham. Smith has one year of eligibility remaining at his next school.
He was one of the overlooked players coming out of high school and started out at Wright State, spending just one season there. That year, Smith averaged 5.4 points and 2.9 rebounds per game, landing Horizon League All-Freshman honors in his lone season. That led to Smith transferring to Chattanooga and making a huge name for himself.
After sitting out a year due to NCAA transfer rules, Smith averaged 16.8 points, 8.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game in 2020-21. This past season, Smith took another step forward, averaging 19.9 points, 6.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.
