The wolves are at the gate in Salt Lake City, and the Utah Jazz appear to be doing nothing to stave them off ahead of an underwhelming NBA playoff disappointment.
On Thursday, the Jazz fell 2-1 to the Dallas Mavericks. They still haven’t been able to suit Luka Doncic up for the series. The Jazz look disconnected and disinterested. The scores of trade pieces involving Donovan Mitchell are looking increasingly grounded in reality.
Meanwhile, the Charlotte Hornets had an acceptable 2021-22 season. True, they were decimated by the Atlanta Hawks in the play-in tournament. With such a young core, even participating in the tournament was a fine outcome. Next season, however, they’d probably like to take a step forward.
If they were able to pair Ball with Donovan Mitchell in the backcourt, they’d probably take a quantum leap.
Making a deal won’t be easy. Mitchell will have a lineup of suitors if the Jazz put him on the trade market. Still, the Charlotte Hornets may have the ammunition to get it done.

The Charlotte Hornets are in an ideal position to trade for Donovan Mitchell.
