Nebraska football finds itself looking to escape one of its most tumultuous stretches in program history, and the Huskers hope the addition of Texas quarterback transfer Casey Thompson will be able to breathe some new life into the Nebraska offense. Thompson, on Wednesday, opened up on what led him to continue his career in Lincoln after leaving the Longhorns, and the first-year Nebraska signal-caller said he's a big fan of the surrounding talent that is already in place.

"I was looking for an opportunity at the quarterback spot," Thompson told reporters. "I was looking for a great offense. A good offensive line in the research that I did. Honestly, it was just film study just kind of trying to watch and see what teams around the country have potential and where the good receivers are. We have enough talent and we have plenty of pieces in place here to win ball games and compete at a high level, so that's why I decided to come here. So I would say (Mark Whipple’s offense), partnered with (Scott Frost) … Frost kind of recruited me at UCF in middle school here so I kind of knew what he was about. Then I started studying. Then I saw Nebraska in 2020 and ‘21 and that's what led to my decision."

Thompson, who spent multiple seasons as a backup for ex-Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger, emerged as the Longhorns' starter two games into the 2021 campaign after overtaking Week 1 starter Hudson Card.
