The 2021-22 NBA season has been a complete disaster for the New York Knicks, as they are a worse defensive team than they were a season ago and still have no consistent offensive production. However they are still in striking distance of making the play-in tournament and salvaging their season.
Currently 25-34, the Knicks sit 3.5 games behind the Atlanta Hawks for the 10-seed in the Eastern Conference and they are currently 2 games back from the Wizards for 11th place.
It is not going to be easy for the Knicks to turn things around and they will need some help from other teams along the way, but New York is still alive and in the hunt for a play-in tournament spot this season.
This still does not however mask the fact that this season has been a complete disappointment for them, especially after being the 4-seed in the playoffs last year.
Basically having the same roster from a season ago, the Knicks may have regressed the most out of any team in the league this season and consistency has been a big problem for them.
Julius Randle has not looked like the All-Star he was last season and quite honestly, the Knicks just need another star player.
They will be under the tax line entering next season, allowing the Knicks to possibly pursue an All-Star leader of their team, but most importantly, they have plenty of moveable contracts in trade talks.
Other than maybe Julius Randle and R.J. Barrett, everybody could be on the table in trade discussions this offseason for the New York Knicks.
Big changes are on the horizon for this franchise and as a result, these three players could be on the move in the offseason.
Alec Burks
Perhaps one of the most consistent members of the New York Knicks this season has been Alec Burks. 30-year-old wing has had a really strong offensive year with the Knicks and at times, has looked like their third option next to Randle and Barrett.
