Casey Thompson, Texas' starting quarterback for the majority of the 2021 season, has entered the transfer portal. Thompson appeared in all 12 games for the Longhorns this season, assuming starting responsibilities over Hudson Card in Week 3 against Rice. 

Thompson, who will be a redshirt senior in 2022, threw for 2,113 yards and 24 touchdowns, adding 157 yards rushing and four touchdowns on the ground. He stepped in for an ineffective Card late in the Week 2 loss to Arkansas, but was benched in early November against Iowa State after struggles of his own. He finished the season with 170 yards passing in the win over Kansas State.
