The Vancouver Canucks have named Stan Smyl as the team's new vice president of hockey operations, the team announced on Thursday.

"Stan has been a foundational piece of this team for decades, and we are pleased that he will be taking on this role," said president of hockey operations and interim general manager Jim Rutherford in an official team release.
