The Los Angeles Lakers have had an eventful offseason but it’s unclear if it’s going to work out. So far, the team is showing a real need to add perimeter shooting to better contend for an NBA title.
LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Talen Horton-Tucker are the only holdovers from last season’s roster that are on the team this season. There are a few familiar faces, as Dwight Howard and Rajon Rondo are returning to the team after helping win the NBA Championship in the Orlando Bubble.
Trevor Ariza, Wayne Ellington, and Kent Bazemore have all played with the Lakers previously in their careers as well. Carmelo Anthony, Malik Monk, Kendrick Nunn, DeAndre Jordan were four more free-agent signings who are each in their debut season with the team.
Russell Westbrook was the team’s biggest acquisition. Rob Pelinka acquired him in a trade with the Washington Wizards which saw Kyle Kuzma, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Montrezl Harrell, and the No. 22 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft head east.

Los Angeles Lakers Receive: G Eric Gordon, 2024 Second Round Pick
Houston Rockets Receive: F Talen Horton-Tucker, G Kendrick Nunn, 2026 First Round Pick
This hypothetical trade between the Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets lands veteran Eric Gordon in Los Angeles. He has been the center of trade rumors for a while now as Houston is very clearly rebuilding and in a youth movement.
Gordon is one of the last players remaining on the team from the Mike D’Antoni era along with Danuel House Jr. It would not be surprising to see both of them moved at some point this season.
