The Tampa Bay Rays have agreed to a multiyear contract extension with general manager Erik Neander and promoted him to their president of baseball operations, the club announced on Wednesday.

Neander, 38, was named MLB's Executive of the Year in 2019. He joined the Rays as a baseball operations intern in January of 2007 and was hired by the club full-time that October. While working his up through the ranks, Neander became the organization's director of baseball operations before the 2012 season and vice president of baseball operations in 2014.

Tampa Bay named Neander as senior vice president of baseball operations and general manager in November 2016.
