Tragic news struck the Virginia Union football program. Defensive end Quandarius Wilburn died at VCU Medical Center, according to the Associated Press.

Wilburn collapsed during a football practice over the weekend. The 19-year-old was immediately taken to the hospital but the freshman at the Division II university did not make it.

Virginia Union University President Hakim Lucas released a statement regarding the news.

“This is a heartbreaking loss for our campus community,” Lucas said in a statement, via the AP. “I want to personally encourage each of you to keep Mr. Wilburn’s family in your prayers, as well as the VUU athletics department.”
