The Miami Dolphins are sitting pretty at 4-1 entering Week 6, and they certainly have most of the pieces in place to go on a deep playoff run in January.
Through the first five weeks, only the Buffalo Bills (21) and Baltimore Ravens (18) have more sacks than Miami (17). But you can never have too many stud pass-rushers in today’s NFL, and the Dolphins could use another playmaker off the edge to complement Bradley Chubb, Andrew Van Ginkel and Zach Sieler.
One player who should be on Miami’s wish list leading up to the Oct. 31 trade deadline? Washington Commanders’ star Chase Young, who feels like a sure bet to hit the trade block with his team unlikely to make the postseason.
The 2-3 Commanders surprised everybody by declining the fifth-year option on Young’s rookie deal. If they’re not keen on extending him, the Commanders should trade Young rather than risk losing him for nothing in 2024 free agency.
Miami could offer Washington a 2024 fifth-round pick and their third-round selection (their 2024 third-rounder was forfeited as punishment for tampering with Tom Brady and Sean Payton) for Young.
It may seem like a small return for Washington, given that Young is a former No. 2 overall pick. But they’re not going to get a king’s ransom for a player in his contract year, and a future third-rounder is good value for a team that looks poised for another rebuild.
And as for Young, he would surely love the opportunity to chase a championship on one of the league’s top contenders.
