The New York Jets have inquired about the availability of Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.
Green Bay is willing to part ways with Rodgers if he asks for a trade, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
Head coach Robert Saleh said in January the team will be “aggressive as heck” to upgrade the quarterback position. Zach Wilson and Chris Streveler are the only quarterbacks under contract for the 2023 season. Mike White and Joe Flacco are slated to become free agents.
If Rodgers decides he wants to play elsewhere in 2023, he will need to rework his contract for cap purposes to facilitate a trade. Teams have already reached out to the Packers about a possible deal, with the Las Vegas Raiders and New York Jets emerging as possible destinations, according to Pelissero. The Packers have told other clubs it is too early to start negotiations.
