The San Francisco 49ers have benefitted from Brock Purdy’s team-friendly contract, but as he enters a contract year, the team will face a hefty new bill to retain him. Since taking over in 2022, Purdy has established himself as a top quarterback with a 64-27 TD-to-INT ratio, a 104.9 QB rating, and a key role in two NFC Championship appearances.
Purdy’s stellar performance, including a Pro Bowl selection in 2023 and a strong 2024 season, has made him eligible for a major contract extension. Industry experts suggest the Trevor Lawrence contract ($55 million AAV) will serve as a reference in negotiations, with Purdy’s superior career stats positioning him to potentially earn even more.
With the 49ers holding franchise tag options in 2026 and 2027, they could delay negotiations, but waiting could lead to an asking price exceeding $60 million annually. Given Purdy’s proven abilities and head coach Kyle Shanahan’s confidence in him, it may be in the 49ers’ best interest to finalize an extension soon.
