Mikko Rantanen was awarded the NHL’s Second Star for the week ending Nov. 24. Columbus Blue Jackets’s defenseman Zach Werenski earned the First Star and Toronto Maple Leafs’ goaltender Joseph Woll got the Third.
The 28-year-old’s seven points (2G, 5A) helped the Avalanche win their last three games on the road. He scored his fifth power-play goal of the season in the 2-1 win over the Washington Capitals. He earned his second four-point game of the season, the 24th of his career, against the reigning Stanley Cup Champion Florida Panthers.

The Avs forward notched 15 points in October and struggled a few games at the end of the month into November before Artturi Lehkonen returned to the lineup on Nov. 5. He has only been held scoreless for three games this month and has two more points than last month with four games left to play.
Rantanen is No. 4 in the league for points with 32 and tied for the No. 2 spot for game-winning goals (4). He will represent Finland at the 4 Nations Face-Off in February.
Contract talks have been in the spotlight as the elite right-wing is slated to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season.
