Okay, what the heck is really going on with Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins? Everyone around the NHL assumed an extension would be done by now, but it’s not. On a new episode of 32 Thoughts, Elliotte Friedman gave some insight into why a deal might not be done, and it sounds like the ball is in Crosby’s court.

We’ve been hearing for years that John Gibson might be headed out of Anaheim, but what about Cam Fowler? He’s been in Anaheim his entire career, but it doesn’t sound like he’ll be in Anaheim for much longer.

Everyone was shocked when the Avalanche took Ilya Nabokov with their first pick in the NHL Draft this summer…even Ilya Nabokov.

The Avalanche aren’t a big team at all, but are they the lightest team in the NHL?

Gulyayev Scores

There was some concern as to whether or not Mikhail Gulyayev would be healthy to start the season in the KHL, but he is. He played in the season opener for Avangard and suited up again yesterday. He also became the first Avalanche prospect to get on the board this season, as he scored Avangard’s first goal in a 4-2 win.

He has played a little under 15 minutes in both games, most of which has come at even strength, so we’ll continue to monitor if he can sneak onto a powerplay here and there this season. That would be nice for his development.

News And Rumors

Sportsnet: A round-up of the newest episode of 32 Thoughts. Are the Ducks going to be moving Cam Fowler before the season gets started? Do Flames veterans want anything to do with a rebuild? And the latest on an extension for Sidney Crosby.

The ball seems to be firmly in Crosby’s court, and maybe he’s coming to the realization that the Penguins aren’t likely to be very good the next few seasons. Could he actually change teams? I’m not convinced that’s going to happen, but Avalanche fans will certainly be following the situation.

X: Nikita Zadorov is about to become a big fan favorite in Boston. On Friday, he got to throw out the first pitch at the Red Sox game…and then met David Ortiz. He’s living the good life now.

San Jose Hockey Now: Maybe he didn’t actually want to end up there, but Barclay Goodrow is back with the Sharks and seems to have accepted the move.

Washington Hockey Now: The goal is simple – see Alexander Ovechkin break the NHL record for goals in a career. How are the Capitals gong to do that? Here’s what their lineup might look like this season.

Buffalo Hockey Now: They haven’t made the playoffs in years and they don’t have a captain. Sounds like things are going great in Buffalo. Who should get the C on their sweater?

New Jersey Hockey Now: Doesn’t sound like there’s going to be a long-term commitment just yet between the Devils and Dawson Mercer.
