Okay, what the heck is really going on with Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins? Everyone around the NHL assumed an extension would be done by now, but it’s not. There was some concern as to whether or not Mikhail Gulyayev would be healthy to start the season in the KHL, but he is. He played in the season opener for Avangard and suited up again yesterday. He also became the first Avalanche prospect to get on the board this season, as he scored Avangard’s first goal in a 4-2 win.

He has played a little under 15 minutes in both games, most of which has come at even strength, so we’ll continue to monitor if he can sneak onto a powerplay here and there this season. That would be nice for his development.
