We are just eight days away from the Colorado Avalanche rookies hitting the ice at Family Sports, and nine days away from their first game in the 2024 Rookie Faceoff.

And now we finally know who will be participating in the tournament.

On Wednesday, the Avalanche released the full roster of players who will participate. Most of these guys will play in two games, but you’ll get a few that will take part in three. Here’s the list of players that will be suiting up for Colorado.

The obvious names that stick out are Calum Ritchie and Sean Behrens. Ritchie changed to #71 recently with the addition of Oliver Kylington, who took his #58. If you ask me, he upgraded when it comes to the number, but that’s just my opinion. He’s far and away the most talented player on the roster and will get a long look in main camp. Behrens is taking part in the tournament for the first time and will have some time to adjust to pro hockey this season.

Some interesting names that will take part are Oskar Olausson, Ivan Ivan, and Ondrej Pavel. Olausson is coming off major shoulder surgery but seeing as how he isn’t listed as injured, should be able to play. Ivan earned an entry-level contract last year, while Pavel is one of the hardest working guys in the organization.

As for who isn’t on the roster? The names that stick out are Nikolai Kovalenko, Jean-Luc Foudy, and Sam Malinski. Kovalenko and Malinski don’t surprise me, as they’re both a little older. Kovalenko is currently in D.C. representing the Avalanche at the NHLPA Rookie Showcase. Foudy has been playing pro hockey for four years now, so it makes sense that he isn’t participating.

With NCAA and KHL players not able to participate, the list is pretty invite-heavy and the depth is lacking a little bit. Two of Colorado’s top three prospects are already playing pro hockey over in Russia.

The Avalanche rookies will play against the Anaheim Ducks, Seattle Kraken, and San Jose Sharks in the tournament. You can find the full schedule here. All the games will be streamed online.
