We’re nearing the Tuesday deadline when the Edmonton Oilers have to make their decision on whether or not to match the offer sheets the St. Louis Blues gave Broberg and Holloway. The Oilers aren’t sitting around waiting, though. On Sunday, they made two trades, including one where they picked up a former top draft pick that hasn’t quite panned out in the NHL.
Elite Prospects put together their list of the top 100 prospects in the NHL and three Avalanche picks made it on the list. One of them happens to be pretty high up the list as well. I have a feeling we’ll be seeing him in the NHL this year.

You may have noticed nothing on Sunday. I’m out in New York for a wedding, and sticking around a few days because my daughter is turning 7. We’ll be back to our regularly scheduled programming here in the next 24 hours, but just taking some time to celebrate.

San Jose Hockey Now: Last week, we talked about how the Sharks were a team that could help the Oilers out. They did just that, and if you ask me, didn’t get enough. The Sharks made a move to acquire a third rounder and Cody Ceci.
Given the predicament Edmonton is currently in, I think they should have at least asked for a second round pick. One team was desperate here, and it wasn’t the Sharks.
TSN: Before making that move, the Oilers traded a fourth-round pick to the Vancouver Canucks for Vasily Podkolzin.
I’m surprised Vancouver moved him inside the division. He’s not going to be a star player, but I’ve always liked his game because he’s got a great motor. He should be a decent bottom six option.
Instagram: Elite Prospects released their top 100 NHL affiliated skaters ranking, and three Avalanche prospects made the cut – Sean Behrens at 70, Mikhail Gulyayev at 51 and Calum Ritchie at 20.
