Tarik Skubal Is An Underdog?
The Tigers will start Tarik Skubal, who has become one of the league’s best young pitchers in the game. The left-hander has held his last 109 batters to a .119 ISO and wOBA of .278. He’s also struck out 27.5% of batters in the last 30 days and has limited walks to 5.5%.
Skubal has averaged more than 97 pitches a start and will face a Mariners lineup that has hit just a .179 ISO and has struck out 22.6% of the time against lefties over the last month.
Skubal should have a monster day.
Can Detroit’s Lefties Compete?
The Mariners will pitch George Kirby. He’s a solid right-handed pitcher who has struggled a little bit with lefties over the last month.
Over the last 30 days, Kirby has allowed 53.3% of hard contact to lefties, 26.7% of fly balls, and only 13.5% of strikeouts against lefties. Meanwhile, Detroit’s lefties have hit a .223 ISO and wOBA of .380 against righties over the last month, with only 19.5% of strikeouts.
