Super Bowl 58 Gatorade Shower Color Prop Bet Odds, Predictions and Historical Trends

No game in the entire world of sports inspires more betting than the Super Bowl. Given the number of available props, the actual outcome of the game is inconsequential by comparison. You can bet on basically everything (including the National Anthem, coin toss and halftime show). The color of Gatorade with which the winning coach gets dumped is no exception.

That Gatorade prop is the one on which we will focus in this piece in advance of Super Bowl 58 between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers.

How To Bet On The Super Bowl Gatorade Shower

Most sportsbooks will have Gatorade odds at some point leading up to Super Bowl Sunday. That includes FanDuel and BetMGM, which have them available right now. At most ‘books you can select Super Bowl LVIII and then Novelty Props and you will see the Gatorade market alongside the Coin Toss and other exotic prop opportunities.

Super Bowl Gatorade Shower Previous Winners & Trends

Purple was the Gatorade of choice last year for the third time since records of this event started being kept in 2001 – and also for the first time since 2012. It was a sizable upset given the recent dominance of Blue and Orange – especially considering that Orange was the Chiefs’ choice when Patrick Mahomes won his first Lombardi Trophy in 2020. Since the start of the 2012 NFL season, Blue and Orange are the only colors with multiple dumps — each with a whopping 5. Dating back to 2001, Clear/Water is tied for second place with 4 — all coming in a 4-year span from 2005 through 2008. Purple and Yellow are next with 3 douses, the latter most recently cashing in Super Bowl 53 when the Philadelphia Eagles upset the New England Patriots.

Only 4 times since 2001 has the color of the Gatorade matched the winning team’s color scheme. Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin’s clothes were splashed with Yellow following Super Bowl 43, while New England head coach Bill Belichick has twice gotten Blue treatment and Rams head coach Sean McVay was feeling Blue a couple of seasons ago.

In the last 23 installments of the biggest game in American sports, on just 4 occasions has the winning coach avoided seemingly certain doom. All 4 of those Super Bowls were decided either on the very last play or in the final seconds, thus not giving players necessary preparation time to issue a Gatorade bath.

Here is the list of the last 10 Super Bowl Gatorade shower colors, including the calendar year and the winning team:

2023  Chiefs  Purple
2022  Rams  Blue
2021  Buccaneers  Blue
2020  Chiefs  Orange
2019  Patriots  Blue
2018  Eagles  Yellow
2017  Patriots  None
2016  Broncos  Orange
2015  Patriots  Blue
2014  Seahawks  Orange

Super Bowl Gatorade Shower Odds and Betting Activity

Odds are currently available at both FanDuel and BetMGM. They are each listed below – FanDuel first and BetMGM second.

Red/Pink: +260 / +450

Purple: +330 / +225

Yellow/Green: +400 / +450

Blue: +460 / +275

Orange: +500 / +550

Clear/Water: +1000 / +1000

None: +4000

Unsurprisingly given that it is the primary color for both the Chiefs and 49ers, Red (or Pink) is the current favorite at FanDuel Sportsbook for Super Bowl 58 on Feb. 11. It is followed by Purple, Yellow/Green, Blue, Orange, Clear/Water and no bath. However, history shows that the colors rarely align – just as they haven’t the last 2 times in which Kansas City has triumphed. As such, it is also no surprise to see defending champion Purple going off near the top of the favorites list.

Per BetMGM sportsbook, Orange is inspiring most of the early action. It is garnering 29 percent of tickets and 35 percent of the overall handle. Yellow/Green is next with 21 percent and 24 percent, respectively. The public is avoiding Purple as the favorite, with just 3 percent of tickets and 1 percent of the handle going in that direction.

Super Bowl Gatorade Shower Picks and Predictions

You can analyze Super Bowl Gatorade history all you want; the bottom line is that predicting what it’s going to be is pretty much a crapshoot. That’s why there is never going to be any value on whatever color is the favorite. Smarter betting involves taking an underdog to maximize profit while also not really taking any greater risk than you would by selecting any other color. As such, I’m avoiding Red and Purple like the plague. Instead, I’ll roll with Orange. Orange is the all-time leader with 5 baths since records started being kept in 2001. All 5 of Orange’s appearances have come in the last 14 years (Blue is the only other color with multiple dumps during this 14-year stretch, with 4). Moreover, Orange just tastes great. It’s a color guys want to be drinking on the sideline.

The fact that the Chiefs have a decent chance to win (+100 on the money line) and that their cooler had Orange Gatorade when they won Super Bowl 54 (against the 49ers I might add), I’ll roll with Orange to continue its relative dominance.
