Week 17 NFL picks against the spread
Game | Date, time |
New York Jets (+7.5) @ Cleveland Browns | Dec. 28, 8:15 PM ET |
Miami Dolphins (+3.5) @ Baltimore Ravens | Dec. 31, 1:00 PM ET |
Las Vegas Raiders (+3.5) @ Indianapolis Colts | Dec. 31, 1:00 PM ET |
Pittsburgh Steelers (+3.5) @ Seattle Seahawks | Dec. 31, 4:05 PM ET |
New York Jets hang in there with Cleveland Browns
New York opened up a 27-7 halftime lead against a terrible Washington Commanders team last week. It had to hold on for dear life, winning by the score of 30-28. But we really do like the way Robert Saleh’s squad is competing despite being eliminated from playoff contention.
Taking on his former Jets team on Thursday Night Football, Joe Flacco has played pretty good football since being signed off the street. However, turnovers have been an issue. He’s thrown seven interceptions and has lost one fumble in four starts.
This is not ideal against a swarming Jets defense that has yielded 16 passing touchdowns against 14 interceptions to quarterbacks on the season. We still like the 10-5 Browns to come out on top. But it’s going to be by a narrower margin than the current 7.5-point spread.
Statement win for Tua Tagovailoa, Miami Dolphins
Miami finally got over the hump and beat a winning team last week, besting the Dallas Cowboys in a hotly-contested affair in South Beach. Week 17 presents a completely new opportunity for Tua Tagovailoa and Co. against a Baltimore Ravens team that blew out the San Francisco 49ers on the road Christmas Night.
We’re expecting Mike McDaniel’s squad to be fired up for this game. It has an opportunity to match the Ravens with 12 wins on the season, potentially landing home-field advantage and a first-round bye in the AFC Playoffs.
Among the matchups we’re most intrigued to see here is Dolphins star edge rusher Bradley Chubb against Ravens left tackle Ronnie Stanley. He has 4.5 sacks in the past two games. Star cornerback Jalen Ramsey has also been elite since returning from injury, yielding a mere 37.5 QB rating when targeted.
Las Vegas Raiders remain alive in NFL Playoffs
Antonio Pierce has the Raiders playing inspired football with a 4-3 record since he replaced the fired Josh McDaniels earlier in the season. That included an astonishing win over the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs on the road Christmas Day.
More than anything, it’s been the Raiders’ defense that’s stepped up with four touchdowns over the past two games. This unit is playing stellar football as Vegas attempts to remain alive in the AFC Playoff race.
On the other side sits a Colts team that’s coming off a brutal loss to the Atlanta Falcons. It is holding on to that final playoff spot heading into Week 17. With Vegas’ defense playing the way it is, we’re going with the small road upset here.
Big win for the Pittsburgh Steelers
Despite boasting an 8-7 record and being in a playoff spot, the Seattle Seahawks have been outscored by 32 points this season. Some of their wins can be qualified as lucky. Heck, Seattle is 5-3 in one-score games this season.
Also at 8-7 on the season, Pittsburgh is coming off a brilliant blowout win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Mason Rudolph played great football. The Steelers are also 7-2 in one-score games heading into Week 17. We like them to head into Seattle and come away with a big win.
